Supported by West Lothian Council
WEST LOTHIAN INDEPENDENT DANCERS are a social dance group based in Ecclesmachan near Edinburgh in Central Scotland, where traditional Scottish Country Dancing can usually be enjoyed every night of the week - for those with enough energy! We also enjoy the folk dancing of other cultures. In 2000 we danced in Aalborg in Denmark accompanied by the band 'Scotch Snap' and a young Scottish Highland Dancer. The friendly Danish group Aalborg Folkdansere showed us some of their traditional dances which we can now display. In 2002 we danced as guests of Betaille, and demonstrated our dances in other villages in the Dordogne, France. We sampled the local food and wine with our hospitable French hosts and saw some wonderful heritage sites.

WLID's aim is to display traditional Scottish Country Dancing and music to the people of other countries and to experience their traditional dancing. We can reciprocate by inviting them to come to Scotland as our guests.
